Where R We Now?The race began at 7:10 a.m., just barely sunrise. What a sight, 160 boats, either heading down stream or staged to take off. The temperature is 72 degrees, which is great for Cait, but a bit cold for Tony. He will have more of an incentive to paddle hard and work up a sweat. However, the humidity was 97 percent, so cooling was difficulty. There is a cloud cover and a possibility of shattered showers. Last night we got a few showers and that would also be good today.
The river flow is about 5,368 cps. The support team made sure Cait and Tony were fully loaded with water, ice, electrolites, gu packs, sun block lotion and power bars. Their first stop will be at Smithville, 25 miles down stream. If they can maintain 6 mph, that should put them there about 11. go to the next link to see how they did.
