Where R We Now?The race began at 7:10 a.m.. The team reachs La Grange, 9 hours & 25 minutes later at 4:35 p.m.. Sixty one miles down, thirty six more to go. They just completed the hottest segment of the race and the temperatures have now peaked. At La Grange the temperature is 89 degrees with a comfortable 43 percent humidity. The river flow is 5,604 cps. Rumor has it that Cait had to knock on the air conditioned RV door in order to get the support team to come down to the dock and help. OK, so the knocking is true, but we were not asleep. Actually we had just uploaded the first web pages with the progress to date and were reviewing the pictures.
Cait & Tony bested their rate from the previous segment. Our estimate of their arrival time was a bit off and thus were caught "not at the dock." We will never live that one down. Cait & Tony take only an hour break, cooling down, eating some good food and debriefing. Thus far we have provided 220 pounds of ice and more than a couple cases of bottled water.
They are in the best of spirits and are ready to push on. They push off at 5:38 and start a race to get as far downstream as possible before sunset. Their next stop will be at the finish line in Columbus, 36 miles down river. Tonight they should have a three quarter moon to help with the visibility. If they can hold their pace they could be off the water and in bed by midnight, six hours ahead of last year's time. The support team also like that idea.
